Ecoprinting and California Native Botanical Dyes

This beginner-friendly workshop will focus on two dye projects that explore the art and science of extracting color from plants and in particular, from California native plants. Participants will learn to prepare and scour fibers, select appropriate fiber types, use mordants for color fixing, use color modifiers, and predict the amount of dyestuffs for desired results. They’ll also try out botanical ecoprinting, a method of printing plants directly onto fabric! Beginners welcome! 

Wednesdays, 09/09/2026-11/06/2026, 6:30-9:30pm

Intro to Printmaking (9 week)

This course introduces students to printmaking through hands‑on exploration of relief printing, intaglio, collagraph, monoprint, and serigraphy. Students will experiment with a wide range of traditional processes while learning how different tools and materials influence their results. This class combines direct instruction with studio work time, with the instructor available for guidance and troubleshooting. All levels welcome!

Shibori & Indigo Dyeing

This workshop introduces students to traditional Japanese resist‑dyeing techniques used to create bold blue‑and‑white designs on fabric. Students will learn multiple methods of preparing textiles including folding, scrunching, binding, stitching, and clamping before preparing an indigo vat using pre‑reduced indigo crystals.

Spooky Tetrapak Printmaking

Tetrapak printmaking introduces students to an accessible, low‑waste method that uses repurposed food cartons as printing plates. Students will learn how to prepare plates, explore both etching and collagraph techniques, and practice pulling clean, consistent prints. This course emphasizes quick experimentation, making it easy for students to build skills and produce a series of finished prints. Students will leave with a set of unique works and the knowledge to continue the process independently.

Water-Marbling for Fabric and Paper

This hands‑on workshop introduces students to the art of water marbling by floating pigments on thickened water to create one‑of‑a‑kind patterns. Students will learn how to prepare pigments, use specialized tools to manipulate color, and transfer their designs onto both paper and fabric. This workshop is beginner‑friendly and offers a calm, creative environment for experimentation.
