Hi, I'm Laura! I'm an educator, maker, artist, and maritime archaeologist originally from Texas, but now based in East Bay, California. I've worked on underwater excavations around the world, I teach both anthropology and art, and I draw on my formal training and hands-on experience in archaeology to inform my work as an artist. 

While I primarily work with textiles through weaving, dyeing, and surface manipulation/decoration, I also work in paper sculpture and printmaking, and often endeavor to incorporate all three. My artistic work explores how textiles can be vehicles for cultural expression and collective identity. 

I work from a small home studio in California's East Bay. I'm lucky enough to live close to spectacular landscapes and seascapes and a vibrant art community, I'm regularly inspired by my husband's ceramic practice (also in our home studio) and I typically have a cat underfoot as I create!
